Dollar Lower After Downbeat U.S. Durable Goods Orders

SAN FRANCISCO — The bucks extended its fall against the yen Wednesday and remained weak against the euro, after an unexpected slide in U.S. durable goods orders contrasted with strong European data and sent the greenback reeling. The bucks index, that measures the U.S. currency against a basket of major counterparts, was at 71.739, down from 72.053 in late U.S. trading Tuesday. The bucks was buying 99.04 yen, down from 99.16 yen in London earlier Wednesday and 100.05 yen in late U.S. trading Tuesday. The euro bought USD 1.5729, compared with USD 1.5754 in London and USD 1.5634 in late U.S. trading Tuesday. The British pound sterling bought USD 1.9961, compared to USD 1.9938 in London and USD 2.0061 in late U.S. trading Tuesday.
