JetBlue Terminal in New York Evacuated
NEW YORK A JetBlue terminal in New York was evacuated briefly Monday after reports of an suspicious package.
Passengers were evacuated from the terminal at John F. Kennedy International Airport shortly before 8 a.m. EDT. Officials told FOX News that two World War II toy grenade paperweights were found in checked baggage.
An all clear was given at 8:15 EDT.
JetBlue spokeswoman Alison Eshelman could not say how plenty of people were in the terminal at the time, but said the morning is a “slower time period” for the airline.
Travelers were told to cross the street away from the building while authorities investigated.
JetBlue was set to unveil a new terminal later in the day, connected to the landmark Trans World Airlines terminal, that was built in 1962 and closed when TWA ended operations in October 2001.
The new Terminal 5 will boast several high-end restaurants, and passengers will be able to have food delivered to them at the gate.
It was designed to handle up to 20 000 000 passengers per year.
